L’Oreal Elvive versus Kerastase Resistance Shampoo and Conditioners………………. Are they the same?!!!!

Hi Everyone,

How’s are you all? I have a slightly controversial post for you. Well it depends on your view point really.

I use salon hair care products. My reason for this is because i dye my hair, its fine hair and prone to snapping very easily. Sadly, i do not have amazing hair and using high street shampoo and conditioners, often results in horrendous straw-like unhealthy looking hair. This has been the catalyst for me to use salon options.

Kerastase Resistance

When i visit my stylist now, i pick up hair care products and have done for many years (and online). I love Tigi, Matrix and Kérastase products because they leave my hair sleek without being lank.

This year though, i have decided that i want to make a few financial cut backs on my beauty products mainly because i want to save for other essential items. So, when one of my favourite reviewers on You Tube mentioned Kérastase were owned by L’Oreal and she had bought L’Oreal Elvive products, which had the same scent as Kérastase, i got quite excited. Here was the perfect opportunity to save a great deal of money and still get the same great results for my hair. Right! Wrong!!!

I purchased the ones the reviewer mentioned she believed to be the same as the salon alternative.

I have been using Elvive products for a couple of weeks now and my hair is lank/heavy feeling at the roots, flyaway throughout the centre and very dry at the ends. No smoothness at all, sadly. I am so disappointed but i should have known better really. I have never had this result from any Kérastase product yet, just smooth hair. Another point the reviewer made was about them smelling the same. The scent was similar but the Elvive had a much sweeter scent than the Kérastase products.

The problem here is that a number of people fall into the same trap of assuming that one company owns another therefore, same product. Well no! Not the case.

I have written in more detail on this subject in an up and coming post so i will not go into it too much here; basically, various price points afford cost effective or more expensive ingredients and even though some base ingredients may be the same, they use a number of chemicals to produce different results. Often, the higher priced shampoo will have more expensive chemicals which may improve hair cuticle smoothness, etc; whereas, the cheaper one will not. The proof is in the ingredient label and of course in the end result on your hair.

L'Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5

Just a little side note. L’ Oreal own approximately half of the beauty companies in operation worldwide. Does this mean all their products are the same? Of course not!

I did try out the shampoo and conditioner because as i mentioned, i wanted to save money and was willing to give it a go; unfortunately, there are no comparisons with Kérastase products and i will continue to use them for the great healthy hair i want. I will still live in hope of bagging that ever elusive bargain though!

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think of them? Have a great week everyone and i will see you all very soon   😉
