The MB Beauty Awards 2018………………..What’s Hot, What’s Not and What Got Away!

Hi Everyone,

I love doing this post. See previous years awards 2017 and 2015. The title’s a bit of fun and shows the products i have been loving throughout the whole year.

There have been a few new discoveries this year and here they are.

Dior Collagen Activ Lip Maximizer.

I discovered this about 4 years ago and have never looked back. It just keeps my lips beautifully moisturised with a natural plumping effect.

It doesn’t sting the lips like the cheaper counterparts do, but still gives a slight tingle to let you know its doing the trick, in a reassuring way.

Dior have now brought out a whole new shade range and i think you already know what i’m going to buying next!

I find it most effective applying just before bed. Lips are lovely in the morning. Never going to be without it.

Chanel Holiday Libre 2018 single eyeshadow, Electrum Lamé. (LE)

It is still available and i think the reason for this is because it looks like nothing in the pan and yet, its an understated beauty. Original Review.

Works well as an eyeshadow topper and an eye highligher as well as a cheek highligher. There is something special about the high end holiday eyeshadows. They use the best quality powders and pigments and i very rarely pass up on them because of this.

Above left face without the eyeshadow and right; is with it as the topper and on the inner corner of my eye.

It is a beautiful light beige gold. I haven’t stopped using it since i bought it, when i’ve had a chance to wear eyeshadows. I’m so glad i bought it because it was the one that could be easily overlooked.

Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder.

This translucent powder is great for minimizing pores as well as mattifying the areas of your face without looking heavy or cakey. It also leaves a lovely silky feel to the skin.

I bought the travel size at SpaceNK because i wasn’t sure about how it would work. I’m happy to say it is as good as the Chanel translucent powder. If you have that though, you don’t need this. (My Chanel ones are from Holiday collections past and contain glitter). The Hourglass works out more expensive per gram compared to the Chanel libre powder and tbh, is no better in quality.

The Ordinary.

I just love their few ingredients with high concentrations levels. The ‘build your own personalised’ skincare. It is super cheap and; works. Simple packaging that you are not paying for. Full review here.

When we buy skincare items, the first four ingredients listed are the main ingredients and the rest are added in mostly trace amounts. Most of the time, we pay for packaging and marketing etc.

I haven’t found that the Ordinary has worked any differently and my skin is looking just as good as it did with the expensive high end brands. I am so happy brands like this have come along because, skin care has started to get ridiculously over priced for what it actually does and brands like the Ordinary prove that they work just as well.

Dior Rouge Blush. 250 Bal.

Re-launched Spring 2018. I am in love with this one. I have Chanel ones and never really liked the look of Dior’s previous blushers although, i’m sure they were great too.

This one is Bal and it is a very soft warm pink with a touch of gold micro shimmer running through it. I love it. It has the right amount of pigment to warm up the cheek and the fine powder blends out easily without going patchy during the day.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme, 118 Eternal.

I have just fell in love with this lipstick. The colour is a soft cool dusky pink. I can’t stop wearing it and despite being ultra matte, it doesn’t age my lips anymore than they already are. A great day wear lipstick. The packaging is also matte. What is not to love there?! Review here.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Mains, Barrier Repairing Hand cream.

Cheap and very effective. It isn’t greasy for a balm and sinks into skin quite quickly. A ‘must have’ during the winter months. Outstanding quality for a high street product.

This is always a difficult one to pin down because so many of my beauty products are outstanding. This one is a new product for me and i’m going to give it a full review later on.

Benefit Gimme Brow+. Brow Volumizing Fibre Gel. No 2.

My eyebrows are beginning to diminish with the menopause and i’m not quite at the stage to microblade.

The fibres in this has given me my great strong brows back. Phew! Am i glad i never over plucked them when i was younger now.

Kérastase Elixir Ultime Beautifying Cream Oil.

This is expensive but it does make my hair super soft without being greasy or lank and only a small amount is required. It protects from the harsh heat of the hairdryer and my split ends are becoming less frequent between hair cuts.

Contains Camellia, pracaxi, maize and argan oils with pommegranate extract. All give different functions for healthy shiny hair. Most important is it doesn’t contain any silicons. I only apply from half way down my hair to the ends. A walnut sized amount is enough.

The Ordinary Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil.

This is just gorgeous. A light weight oil which makes the skin so soft and hydrated. I use this nightly before bed. I don’t use it under makeup. It sinks in quite quickly and is inexpensive. What a wow product. No fragrance or other nasties either.

Nuxe Gentle Toning Lotion with Rose Petals, Face and Eyes.

I must admit, i only buy this when they do the special buys. The special buys usually give double the amount for the same price. It is lovely and super gentle on the skin.  It does have a mild rose fragrance which is non-irritating. Nuxe is a luxe French Pharmacy brand. Very nice indeed.

Chanel No 5 Body Oil.

I could have put many fragrances in this list however, this one is a stand out product for me. It has just enough of the original fragrance in to make a difference without it being over powering. It isn’t as heavy on the aldehydes.

The oil itself is dry and light. It melts into the skin very easily and the fragrance is gorgeous. No greasy after feel and even though i only bought this in November, it is an incredible buy. Very indulgent and i love putting it on after a hot shower. This needs to be a permanent line.

Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File.

Guaranteed for life never to go blunt and i’ve had this one for over three years now and it’s as good as the day i bought it.

Files the nail in no time. I will probably never use an emery board every again. Worth the money.

Chanel Chance Body Oil Spray. (LE)

I could kick myself. I left it too late to buy this gorgeous oil mist. I stupidly decided to buy the Eau Fraiche version and then was going to buy the original a month later. It sold out so fast. Ahhhh!

Don’t get me wrong, i love the Eau Fraiche too but would have loved the original. Hopefully Chanel will bring it back again soon.

Chanel Rouge Allure liquid Powder lipstick.

Its not a bad product by any means but it just feels a little bit gimmicky to me.

It does apply fairly easily and you can control the amount you place on the lip, which gives an advantage over a lipstick. The problem is, i feel like it dries my lips out and i need to put a gloss over it, which defeats the object. I don’t like the powder feel on my lips at all.

I am not regretting the one i bought because it is a gorgeous, flattering shade, i just can’t see myself buying any others. I have been known to change my mind though, so we shall see.

Dior Forever Undercover 24h Foundation.

I have used this one a number of times and just don’t really love the finish. It just looks too matte and lifeless on my skin. Original Review.

There is nothing wrong with the product. If you want a long wearing foundation with a matte finish, this does the job. It even comes in a 40ml size and is cheaper than other Dior foundations. It just doesn’t feel luxurious on my skin in the same way the Dior Star foundation does. Star is more expensive and gives a luminous finish that looks great.

I believe there is a glowy skin version of the Undercover Foundation coming along very soon and i am interested to see how this will compare with the Star foundation. So, i’m not giving up hope just yet.

This is my selection for 2018. What was the stand out product for you in 2018 and the fails? Have a fabulous 2019 and i shall see you all soon. 😉
